Membership

Bujinkan membership was typically made up of two tiers; regular and shidōshikai membership. As of January 2018, shidōshikai membership has been reorganised and replaced with the buyūkai. Soke Hatsumi made this decision “to develop friendship and peace amongst the Bujinkan members. With the help of the hundreds of Dai Shihan present in 55 countries.”. Traditionally, shidōshi (instructors) within the Bujinkan were members of the shidōshikai which formed a worldwide association of Bujinkan instructors.

Soke Hatsumi now wants the Dai Shihan to handle all shidōshikai and regular Bujinkan memberships (yellow card). This means that every Bujinkan dōjō will now be connected to a Dai Shihan. This means that all Bujinkan shidōshi and their students are all grouped under the buyūkai.
